This buck started with a blank white felt. A charcoal sketch was then done. The background is layers of different wool and felted in with a felting machine. From there it is a play on color and light and dark.. The majority of the foreground is felted by hand which are needles that have little barbs on them for penetrating the wool through its material. There is wool batting behind the felt for stability. I buy my wool pre dyed. There is alpaca wool, merino silk wool and assorted wool roving in this piece.. It is then finished off with industrial felt as a final backing and placed in a shadow box. It comes with its own carrying case. To clean one must either use canned air, a feather duster or blow dryer on low. As with any artwork, it must be kept out of direct sunlight.
